Completely a matter of preference. I've met some backhand SP players who like the bouncy feel.
Personally, I'd rather eat a balsa blade than be forced to play with one. Adding carbon to a balsa blade only makes it worse (harder to chew) - amplifies that hollow matchbox-like feel. Non-linear, spring board like on touch shots, kicky on medium hits, and overly "sticky" on smashes. Lacks the direct "wall-off" clean feedback on impact which is further hampered by the presence of composite materials.
Stiff, solid (not necessarily hard), crisp, and linear blades are much more satisfying to hit with (IMO YMMV).
