Alfie put me on to the following link which shows training for backhand loop - with normal inverted by the look of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn10X3T2 ... ed&search=

How should I adjust this type of action to practice the LP BH TS shot? I am thinking that there will be two similar strokes - one that actually imparts some spin (using frictioned pips), and one that appears similar but which affects the ball quite differently. Not sure how THAT might work though :?

Any suggestions?

there's only one guy i know who loops with his pips.. and he uses a much more open racket angle than samsonov seems to do.

sorry.. hard to find good LP advice.. that's what u get for being in a minority ;)

Hallmark have a How To Use Pips video featureing Carl Preen.

There is a 5 minute section during which they show his b/h long pip topspin stroke in slow motion. It's sort of a punch block that ends in a topspin flick. He varies the spin based on when in the stroke he contacts the ball. You may have enough grip/sponge to try this with you 388d 1.0.

If you can replicate this sort of stroke- and puch block with your pips just before the topspin flick-over part of the movement- the ball should look like you've topspinned it, but arrive with mild underspin 8)

Carl Preen used grippier pips and varied between very slight topspin and mild-moderate topspin with his speedglued grippy pips. There are couple of videos floating around the web of him in action. From memory there's a link in the video section of the about.com TT forum.
