My Chines friend needs a fast non gluing non tacky rubber for his Solid BTW Hinoki Blade, he plays all out attack and can only block push on pen-grip backhand. He is using Donic F1 but it is not good at blocking and control on BH.

I was thinking maybe a softer sponge may be better?

A firmer sponge is usually better for blocking as the quicker rebound makes it less sensitive to spin.
However a much softer sponge (eg F3 BS) tends to bottom out against harder loops which makes it even less sensitive to spin...

So is he after something just for his backhand, or to repalce the F1 on his FH?

I find softer sponges easier to work with strokes which don't use much spin, like blocking. Work with meaning to manage to 'hold' the ball, control the pace given.

Might as well try a softer sponge as he already has a hard sponge (F1) alternative to go back to if it doesn't work out well.

I am a Jpenner and recently discovered to my surprise how good the 729 FX Lightening is for my BH. It is tacky though but otherwise, it has really good spin and control. In fact, I like it so much that I ordered another 4 pieces from Alex yesterday. I think he is mad to sell them so cheap for only $32 which worked out to be $8/piece  For the FH, I love the Tenergy but due to its weight, I am trying out all sorts right now. Even ordered 2 pieces of this Avalox AVX Sterco from Alex yesterday as well to try it out. Also using Tibhar Nimbus Sound and Sonex JP Gold. Like them but lacking that oomph that the Tenergy gives me :P

Cheers.

Thanks fattchoi! I actually have no idea what people order unless Luna tells me... and even then I often don't realise who they are in the forum

I'll be very interested to hear how you like the Sterco...I think very few people have tried this rubber, so it's hardly known...

Yeah, I stumbled onto that Sterco yesterday when I was browsing the store. Read the review by LawOCG and decided to give it a try myself. Will see how it goes. And yeah, Luna gave me a bonus by sending it via Express though I only paid for normal post. Lots and lots of kisses to her :D

Cheers.

Sorry but he played his BH shots with his forehand side. He does have a sheet of 755 OX on BH just in case against lower level players but against good players he normally uses forehand rubber.

Ok, he could go for something thinner perhaps. If you tends to hit more than loop, a thinner rubber is usually a much better option IMO. Softer does give you feeling of more control, and tends to make it easier to spin the ball, which also gives you control, so that's defintely an option too.

If you're ever bored, I reckon you should compile a popular rubber statistics thing with graphs and stuff :P

Bored? Who? Me? Or are you trying to say that the OOAKT site is boring :?: :P In any case, I find browsing through OOAKT site very interesting. You never know what you are going to stumble upon and BUY :P And the most interesting thing about the site is that Mr. President :salut: very cleverly linked comprehensive reviews to products where available. That is how I got sold on the Sterco  In fact, I have just stumbled onto this Galaxy Li Qian Special LQ-2, 5ply Defensive Blade. Not so much interested in the blade as I am not SH but there is a nice video clip of Li Qian to watch :P First time I seen a through and through chopper in action :D

Cheers.
