Arlene, if that is a cat in your avatar, then you have plenty of cat fans in Speedplay, Silvalis (Silver), and myself - possibly many others.

I may have to make you a visit for treatment after playing Silver, Haggisv, and the rest of the members down under - they will surely crush me.

Yep, the cat is Oscar, my 2 year old moggie. He tries to get into my supply of table tennis balls, but I told him to leave the 3 stars for mommy and just play with the 1 star ones!

If ever you make it "down under" we can all make a trip to haggisv club, and have a friendly "One of a Kind Forum Members mini tournament" :)

Good idea, Adelaide seems like a central place to hold it.

Hi guys, my name is Evan.

I'm 20. I go to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana (USA). I started playing like a year a half ago during my freshman year and have been fiercely addicted ever since. I had a pretty good peer group to learn with but most of them quit so I dont have many people to play with anymore. I've been playing a good bit with some very good players this summer and my rating is nearing 1700 USATT.

As far as my play style is concerned, I play with both sides inverted. I would consider myself a very all-around player. I generally try to find my oponents weakest points and exploit them. I'm more defensive than I would like to be. Im working on it.

I strive for perfection in my technique but dont always achieve it as I have never been coached. Most all of my coaching has been from lurking in forums such as this one for the past year.

Anyway, Now that I read my post its basically a novel. I'm done now.
Evan

Welcome Evan,

Yes, this is a good place to "lurk" around. Not only for the good technical advise on the game, good reviews on equipments, but also the encouragement one gets on how to improve one's game, whether that be the physical or mental part of table tennis.

Arlene

:P HI GUY'S :P

Just wanted to introduce myself, I've been playing table tennis since 2003.

Im currently living in south-west Sydney.

I play B-grade for mounties at mount pritchard.

Also playing in the premier division at Homebush.

My style is close to the table attacker. Typical BH Block and FH looper,
I usually cover the table with my FH.

Its about time I Intro'd myself as well :)

I play in the same location as Metal Monkey (Syd, inner west).

My style as best as I can describe it is a counter driving allrounder. I can do everything quite well but I don't excel at anything. I use inverted on the BH and try to power loop most balls if I can (sorta like Peter Karlsson). My FH is Short pips which suits my natural tendency to drive the ball rather than brushing it. I Have experimented with LP's in the past but I just can't shake the feeling of being a sitting duck.

At the moment I'm implementing more serves (reverse pendulum) and working on my footwork/consistency/short-game.

And thats about it for now :P

heh heh cheers LawOCG. I've been working on the reverse pendulum serve a lot too lately... a powerful weapon, since it's far less common than the normal pendulum serve... but I'm getting off topic now....

G'day all

I played table tennis pretty intensely during highschool...virtually 7 days a week. Mainly, I played in high school competitions and in the Korean community. I considered myself the best Korean player in Victoria - though my father probably disagreed. I was also my high school captain and beat the number 1 and 2s of all the other high schools - including in a special tournament where we had to play off against each other in a series of qualifying rounds to enter.

After that I had a 20 year break. Last week, someone from work challenged me and I played him with a crappy 15 years old supermarket racquet I had bought for memories sake in university. He made mince meat out of me (he's a professional table tennis coach and pretty fast), but it got me interested to salvaging my self-respect and starting to play again. Always considered it a shame that I didn't enter more tournaments when I was half decent. Anyway, when I get back to Canberra where I now work I intend to start going to the local club. I also recently bought a new racquet (Cream MRS / RITC 802 / Juic Texalium blade) from Alex and am looking forward to getting it in the mail - and maybe getting me some payback.

I use shakehand (unlike many Korean players), and generally consider myself a counter attacker. I have always been in love with spin. Especially when I am playing against aggressive close-to-the-table blockers, I love floating in those wobbly side/topspin loop drives that make the opponent miss completely. Also, I specially concentrated on my backhand drive to the point where it became a more dangerous weapon than my forehand. My big weakness is serving and returning serve. If I survive that and get into a rally, I always gave myself a decent shot. I love smashing smashes. It always surprises the opponent and is such an adrelanine rush.
