For loop driving, I prefer the low throw because with tacky rubbers, you have to close your blade to almost nothing. More edge and air balls. With the proper loop drive stroke and Venus, you still get plenty of spin as evidenced by how low a ball can be driven. :D

I got bored last night and tuned a sheet of Venus with Eucaliptus oil. It reacts big time. Hit with it today. It clicks like crazy, is faster and more spin.

I would have tried it if only that oil wasn't so stinky. :?

But I do believe it'll be great with glue/tuners.

I tried out Venus last year and still use Quattro. Venus was real tacky at first, then totally non-tacky. At first, I couldn't adapt to Venus' properties, except on BH. That rubber was fast and it seemed like the ball didn't stay on the rubber very long. I would say it is an outstanding rubber for the price for powerloopers, loopdrivers, and hitters. I might get me another sheet and try it out again as I feel more consistant attacking compared to last year.

Thanks for the response Der_Echte.

I see from your signature that you are using the 42° Quattro. Are you saying that Venus was significantly faster than 42° Quattro? That would be interesting news indeed, considering Cole says that Quattro is the fastest rubber that he has even above Venus. And the current Quattro is only on approximately 40° rubber or maybe even a little softer.

So the gist I am getting from all of this is that Venus is pretty darn fast and is significantly lower throw than Inspirit/Quattro.

The LKT Torrent also has a pretty low throw, people are constantly surprised by how it goes below their blade when they try to block. But it's not terribly fast. Very spinny and great control, though.

Hi Mike. I wouldn't say Venus is significantly faster, just has different properties and feel. I have both the 39/40 deg and the 42 deg Quattro and simply love them. I also use the Quattro sponge on 999 sometimes and love it as well. I think the Quattro 42 sponge has some nice power to it. I tried out Venus a year ago when I had a less consistant FH loop. I simply couldn't control it on the FH, but it was good on my BH. Now, it might be different for me. Quattro is low throw and I have grown to love it and get used to low throw. (Before I couldn't stand it) The throw on Venus might be just as low as Quattro. On Power Hits, the Venus was certainly powerful enough to finish points. I would put it as a mild tack, fast high gear, low throw, light to medium weight offensive rubber. Quattro weighs a ton and then some, but I like it that way. Quattro does everything I want for my blocking and looping, but the heavy-lead weight and lack of Bryce glued type of high gear is a turn-off for many. One of these days, I will give it another try out. My FH technique just didn't cut it with this rubber last time, but now it might work differently. Hookshot does well counterhitting close to the table and I would be hard pressed to argue against him in choosing this rubber for his style.

Thanks again for the reply.

So it sounds like the major distinctions between Quattro and Venus is that the former is significantly heavier and doesn't really have a top gear.

I am surprised to hear that they're both low throw rubbers, and furthermore that Quattro is actually lower throw than Venus.

This should be an interesting experiment once my rubber gets here from Cole!
