How old is this interview? Because he is talking about 6-7 Chinese in singles. :^)

It's current. There are seven Chinese males seeded in Rotterdam.

What about a limit of 2 men and 2 women in singles?

4.01.09.06 Each Association shall be entitled to 5 entries in each singles event, with 1 additional player in the appropriate event for each player in the first 20 places of the first issue of the ITTF world ranking list in the year of the Championships up to a limit of 2 men and 2 women in singles with 3 men and 3 women pairs in the doubles, 3 pairs in the mixed doubles; all players may be different.

Looks like they may have more players on the list, but only 2 of them are allowed to play in singles.

That is incorrect... Up to six players of each gender per Association can play in the singles, plus the reigning world champion. So China can have seven each in men's and women's singles in upcoming WTTC.

Then again, how do you understand this: "...up to a limit of 2 men and 2 women in singles"?

That rule is only applicable to the Olympics next year. Don't ask me why it's quoted here. ;)

It seems very unlikely. According to the ITTF Rules, it is about World Championships.

The only possible explanation is, that "entries" are not exactly participants.

Just another example of the incomprehensible hodgepodge of gobbledygook known as the ITTF Handbook. :D :D :D

Another explanation is they made a mistake.

No mistake, guys.

This is the proposition, and it was passed (last year). Look up here: http://www.ittf.com/World_Events/wttc_2010/PropositionsResBoD2010_results28_5_2.pdf

Proposition 30.

It's a mistake. Just read the first sentence of this rule, which was not amended so it stands as it is. ITTF morons messed up, as usual. ;)

Add it up yourself, Smartguy... Five entries per association in each singles event plus one in the top 20, that's six. Plus the rule that allows one extra who's the current world champ, that's seven.

As I said, the amended rule applies to the Olympics only. Confirm it yourself with Adham via pm if you wish. :)

I partly disagree ;) .

Let's compare the old rule to the new one. This is the old one from the ITTF Handbook 2008-2009:

Quote:
4.1.9.7 Each Association shall be entitled to 5 entries in each singles event, with 1
additional entry in the appropriate event for each place held by its player in
the first 10 places of the first issue of the ITTF world ranking list in the year of
the Championships, up to 7 players in each individual event.

This is the new one:

Quote:
4.01.09.06 Each Association shall be entitled to 5 entries in each singles event, with 1 additional player in the appropriate event for each player in the first 20 places of the first issue of the ITTF world ranking list in the year of the Championships up to a limit of 2 men and 2 women in singles with 3 men and 3 women pairs in the doubles, 3 pairs in the mixed doubles; all players may be different.

And the proposition 30 says "to take effect from 2011". Now we all have 2011.

So, I insist, only 2 men from the list are allowed to play in singles. Entries are just candidates.
