For those playing with cpen and have a rubber on the back side for RPB, do you glue the RPB rubber all the way down to the handle, or do you leave a gap like on the other side?
I ask because you don't really need a gap on that side to rest your fingers, but if you want to flip over the bat, it would be handy to have the gap. It would probably also look better if both rubbers lined up.
What is most common?

No gap is the most common. There is no time and need to twiddle, so... Though there are some who leave a gap due to weight or if you play a combination setup.

Thanks zeio! I had assumed it would be more common to leave a gap, but we don't have enough cpen players in our area for me to see.

I leave a gap on both FH and BH. I like a gap on my FH for my thumb and index finger for better feel.
Reasons for BH gap:
1. Keep the weigh of the set up down.
2. Although I do not twiddle, I can try how different rubbers play by switching sides.
"Older" penholders tend to like the gaps, I guess. :)

rpb player tend to follow what Wang Hao and Ma Lin did..and as far as i'm concerned those two pros including Xu Xin never leave a gap on BH rubber.

I like the gaps on FH but not on BH..i don't feel the balance if i leave a gap on BH..but i rarely play with my rpb setup.

We don't see as many Cpen players either. Most kids nowadays pick up shakehand from the beginning on their coaches' suggestion. Those who play Cpen are either from the 70s to 80s, and from around the early to mid 00s. Many of the former group have either switched to shakehand or picked up some RPB but still use TBH the majority of time.

Somewhat OT but it's interesting that for the all success RPB penholders have had on the world stage how few players emulating them get the basic grip right, even with some coaching. Hell, even Xu Xin doesn't form a ring with the index + thumb and grips too low on the blade which also causes the fingers on the back to cover too much of the rubber and less than optimal blade angle. This commonly originates from spreading the finger on the front farther apart for better blocking, and somewhat hard to change once the grip habit forms. Another common mistake is moving the fingers on the back away from the middle, which upsets the blade balance and angle. It doesn't really help that the PH blade grip area is often designed wrong to accommodate this.

With the right grip it's much easier to loop more or less like SH, but with the advantage of taking the short game all on FH. This sort of subtle mistake along with many others when teaching RPB tend to compound which is unfortunate because RPB has advantages for the chinese fast-attack style of play.

For the original question, don't think I've ever seen RPB players put a gap on the BH, but it's a pretty minor diff in any case.
