I'm considering getting a Yasaka Extra (not the YEO). Coming from a Violin, will I be happy with YE? Nothing lacking with my Violin, except the head size is only 140x157. I assume a full Cpen size would be better overall and for RPB.

Any inputs appreciated...

If your looking at the extra, check out the galaxy 896 or W6. These are supposed to very, very simular to the extra.

I know Galaxy's size and shape are larger then the compact violin head.

i don't get why you would look for alternatives (galaxy?) on a blade that is $40USD.

because you can get a whole made-up racket from coles for the price of just the wood on the other blade. I am in the military, on a fixed budget, and to me, if its just as good, while beeing cheaper, is ideal, and helpful.

well according to cole, the W6 is the clone for the extra. the W6 costs 32, while the Extra is 39USD. If you are looking to play with an extra, i see no reason to get a "clone" (it's still different, especially the awesome yasaka cpen handles) to save a few bucks.

According to cole, the 896 is the one he recommends, which is 15 dollars. The W6 was listed as "up side of off" which is plenty much faster then the extra.

i think the shape of the handles and the shape of the blades are different enough, that they're not replacements of each other (if the shape is important to you anyway). my violin is 157mm long, galaxy i believe is around 160, but YE is upwards of 166 if I'm not wrong.

the handle is the most important (why i have 4 YEO). Yasaka just makes them very thin (grip area) so it makes it very very comfortable to rpb.

I would not recommend you to buy any Galaxy stuff. Buy originals, so you can be sure it is the real thing.

YE is a little bit slower than Violin. Actually they are somewhat similar. Same direct feeling, both good for blocking and hitting and they are not that springy so its easy to play short game...
YE handle and head size is really great for RPB I think you'll love it...

What i've experienced is the contrary. YE is slow and elastic, so it works best with hard rubbers. In this combination it is good for topspin, and bad for blocking or hitting.

I've not played YExtra but have played allround elastic blades.

The Violin is not an elastic blade in this sense - it does 'flex' or rather spring but in a very different way to an elastic blade.

I would say the Violin (OFF-) was far close to the Acoustic (OFF) than it was to an elastic ALL+ blade (e.g. Septear or v. elastic BTY X3).

Elastic blades provide good arcs for looping. Violin is good at driving.
