@Japsican - I think that was a clear strategy. He did everything extremely slow...

I'd be interested in knowing why. Looked tense to me.

Perhaps the guy likes pace and GE knew lack of pace would bother him. It wasn't a consistency thing, because Uemara seemed very consistent. Of course, what the hell do I know.

Look how he started the match, especially the first 5 points. Then he tried a few BH attacks but they did not work. In 2nd he tried different things and strategies and then he setteled for a very calm appproach where he let the japaneese dude make all misstakes.
But I am just guessing...

Def,

I saw you and Auzcar referring to GE as "Gurra" in another thread. Is that a swedish nickname?

Yeah, that's a common nickname for Gustaf/Gustav in Sweden, along with "Gugge". In a few videos you can hear his teammates cheering "Gurra!" and I think it's in one or two video titles as well.

And his opponent is Fredrik Håkansson (I guess), who gets coaching by Hans Thalin (the man with the cap on his head).

Here is Fredrik in another match 18 years ago:

Yes and yes!

Håkansson is a bit of a legend in Swedish table tennis so it's a really good win for Ericson, even though Håkansson obviously isn't in the same shape as he once was.

Håkansson is born 1975 (two years younger than me :-) )
