Austrian Open ?

Yep. He had 10-5 or something in third (lost the first two) but Ma Lin managed to recover. Too bad, it would have been nice to steal at least one set from Ma Lin.

BTW, just found this interesting video from a training session with Filus:

As a matter of fact I wished he would face one of the Chinese in order to see his progress. I also wished that the match would be recorded on itTV... Apparently my djinny took a holiday after fullfilling my first wish. Too bad he lost the third set... :(

No real new videos about Filus currently.
I want to see his improvements as a young defender :D

Dont get me wrong but I love the way Ruwen plays, but when I see him play I see alot of weakness and openings in his game. I am probably the least qualified person to mention this since he's a profesional and my highest level has been Division 3 College play, but anyways, I see he could improve leaps in his footwork, especially in later sets, he starts to get sloppy and starts dragging his feet which prevents him to be in correct position to chop. He plays to many safe shots with his FH, in my opinion he should use his forehand more like gionis or start chopping with his FH. But you got to love this BH loops and smashes they are crazy fast, and this is one aspect of his game i try to emulate. But hes young im sure he will be cracking the top 50 soon.

Ruwen will play defender Sas Lasan today. What a waste to put two defenders against each other :(

What if there would be a video of that :)

There's a nice match that went the distance with Matsudaira at the Kuwait Open available for viewing at the ITTF website. Filus came up just short, though he looked dominating in the early going. It felt like it could've gone either way.

He did a good job, just a few too many misses on his attacks. But this match he chopped a lot with his FH (since Kenta preferred to loop slow and spinny to his FH). That is something you don't see much from him. Too bad he did not win, I think he would have a good chance against CHUANG Chih-Yuan (if I don't remember wrong, he is terrible against defenders) and then he would face Koki Niwa, and then... OK, stop dreaming :(

Finally, a full match with Filus, this time against Bastian Steger (a lot higher ranked):

As expected, Filus was destroyed by Ryu (who demolished Joo in 4 straight not long ago):

He actually played very impressive, was in the lead the whole first set (except for the last two points). And he started second set equally well, but he played with too small margins, and the weren't on his side... If he would have had some luck (or if he was in the "zone") he could have won the first set and perhaps even the second. That perhaps would have made Ryu a little nervous...

In the third Ruwen actually back spinned out Ryu a number of times :o :o :o He was in a 6-2 lead, but again, gave away too many easy points (missed strokes) to Ryu. He also made a marvelous save from 1-2 to 2-2 in fourth    and was in the lead 4-2 in that set. Than he lost it, took a time put but never recovered and lost 5-11 in the last. Still, very well played and very entertaining as always!
