I've recorded five matches of Seo Hyo Won (ITTF) and uploaded them to Youtube. You'll find this videos either on my TT-Video-Site or on my Youtube channel.

Seo's forehand chops seemed to just be matching the rotation on the ball, returning fairly low or no spin balls. When her opponent worked that out, she was absolutely killing balls received from the forehand chop.

What a game though, really. So delighted that a defensive player has once again won something of import.

Why weren't the Chinese women playing? Are they a bit worried about defensive players at the moment after Ding Ning's loss?

This sure was an exciting to watch. The only other time in recent memory that I was so nervous watching a table tennis match when was Joo SaeHyuk lost to Ma Long in the finals of the 2011 Hungarian Open. Anyway, it sure was wonderful to see Seo win.

My wife read an article about Seo's win in Choson Ilbo, one of the popular newspapers in Korea. (This is article is on the Choson Ilbo Korean website but not their English website which contains fewer articles.) Seo said that she cried so much after recently losing a crucial match to Ishikawa in China, since she felt that she let down the Korean team, and then again she cried so much yesterday over the happiness of winning the Korean Open. Seo also said that she gave up the big leads in the 4th and 5th games because she was playing too safe.

Does anyone know what rubber Seo uses on her forehand? I read that she used Butterfly Tackifire Drive 1.9mm about 6 years ago. I have tried that rubber on my Joo SeHyuk blade and it is very slow. It is hard for me to imagine that she can attack so well with Tackifire Drive on her similar Diode blade (I assume that she is using Butterfly Diode blade). After the match, when she put away her racket, I could see the Butterfly logo on her forehand rubber. Perhaps she uses one of the tenergies.

Steven
