Is there a way off youtube etc. to keep a vid locally once you download it for viewing? I'm sure there is screenscraping software that would do it, but I don't have any. Is there any other way?

Reb...I know I ramble on a bit and perhaps you have discounted what I have said, but two things I have said many times are......

1/ To download Youtube videos, download and install Orbit Downloader and grab the video with that, and

2/ install Gom player or Media Player Classic and watch the videos at your leisure with those players...

Google videos have a download button on the right hand side...Revver have a download button on the right hand side...most Google videos have a download button...Veoh have a program you can install to download and upload videos and you choose download options on the right hand side...

Over all I have downloaded well in excess of 30 gigabyte of Table Tennis videos since last September using those methods...

HI Foss,
I don't ignore what you say and in fact I have tried to download orbitloader a few times from links you've posted, but it has always given me a corrupt file that wouldn't install for some reason. Today I tried again after Suma said it again, and this time it worked. The only issue I had then was how to play the frickin downloads lol. I have media player, but not classic. I think I will try this Gom thing. To download 30 Gb I'd have no trouble with disk space, but it would take me about 30 years with my connection speed LOL.

With media player classic, if you download the codex pack, you can play any video format. Its real easy to use & if your into how things look it has the best play back quality.

I second that. If you don't know what you're doing with codecs (and haven't got CCCP installed) i recommend using VLC which you can get here.

The Gom player when installed properly has a very easy to use interface and easy to use single frame advance by pressing or holding down the F button...it has many options to display videos and you can always get the correct aspect ratio...or you can set it so the size is achieved by dragging a corner...
Over the past 10 years I have used all media players, and have found the best one that suited what I do and that is use frame advance simply or its a slow-mo if the F key is held down is the Gom Player with the Media Player Classic 2nd and on a PC that you cant get the right codec installed(it really is easy to download and install the K-lite full codec pack)the VideoLan VCL player works OK
