Newest blade from KTL: MAGIC



Got a chance to see and try for a few minutes last night.



Hope he brings it again on Friday so I can have more complete description of the blade.



So far I heard it's a 13mm thick blade.



The brochure notes the weight to be in the 80gr. Last night the blade was fitted with Mark V AD and C8 and it felt light.



Not a combi blade. If I were to guess, it's 5 ply limba-balsa-balsa-balsa-limba. I'll nick them with my nail Friday if he brings it around again.

Playing briefly I could feel the balsa kicking its head. The first two fh hit I successfully hit the net. Very low throw with the V AD. After adjusting it went alright.

Felt soft and very fast. Hitting/smashing is great with the V AD. Felt fast on the LP side as well, but surprisingly, some blocks with C8/LP could be short albeit very high. I think this probably due to my unfamiliarity with using LP. Chopping I could brought it quite low over the net.

Very good control.

When I had a brief hit with it last night, it happened the other person I'm having a hit with is not very good (I usually give him 4-5 handicap points and still wins) so I couldn't have a proper try out. Hopefully I get another chance to try later.

Not much of a review, I know, but thought I put it out as a heads up for upcoming new thick balsa blade. Hopefully doesn't come with premium prices as they might be threading on new market as chinese brand (aside from Giant Dragon) which is kind of disappeared nowadays anyway.

Wow.. that's thick. Note how much the front side of the penhold version has to be relieved to fit your forefinger and thumb on either side of the handle. You see this on other KTL blades (they even do it to shakehands blades!) but I've never seen it done to this degree. I've seen 12 and 13mm Japanese penhold blades (usually 1 ply hinoki) but not Chinese penhold!

the brochure indicates it might come with a file to shave down the wing area (hints from the photos of tips to shaving the wings area)
