Hello All,

I often hear people talking about "feeling" in carbon blades compared to an all wood blade and am now wondering...........If you use a carbon blade does it have a more "classic wood" feel if the carbon is buried toward the core in say a 7 ply because the ball is in contact with more outer wood layers or does the "wood feeling" come from a more wooden core where the carbon layers are closer to the the outer surface plys?

I have one Darker 7P2A CHN Carbon, and the carbon plies are more towards the center ply, it is slow and I don't like it. My Violin is faster and very much nicer. The type of wood being used on the outer ply is also a very important factor.

Yes burying the carbon layer deeper will make it feel less hard, and gives less of a 'ping' type sound... so it will change things a little. The blade is still likely to be more rigid than a wooden blade (all other things being equal), so it will only change the feel to a small extent.

I think you got not many responses because I would guess not many people have played with a carbon blade that is not just under the top ply

My W1 has two outer plies over the carbon, and yes, it has a more wood-like feel.

Friendship Hao Shua has the carbon deeper, and has a softer feel.

Also a few more companies (like Galaxy) use a carbon lattice instead of a solid layer, which also gives it a more softer wood-like feel. Arylate is another that softens the feel.

The Joola Carbon Pro does not feel like a carbon blade. It has a thick top wood layer. They advertize it as "Speed, 93". I would rate it as "Speed 70".
Soft feel also.

I'm pretty sure they use it on all their blades. This can sort of explain why their T4, with 4 carbon layers, does not feel like a rock...

cheers,
what I find funny is the arylate/carbon blades from galaxy are probably the least popular galaxy blades while they are the most popular BTY blades.
Is the K series the most popular of galaxy range?

As far as I know, the K series, except the K4, is the least popular in Europe, mainly beacuse of the high price.

I think that the most popular is the M and Y series, beacuse they are made for european topspin game and have a good quality to price relation.

I quess that in Australia and US it can be quite different.
