Is there a level you should be at before stepping up to this blade or is it still within the realm of reasonably good control and touch (5 ply all wood with good feel after all, which is somewhat of a requirement)?

If you have the opportunity, try it, and if you like it, buy it.
I don't think one must reach a certain level to use this blade, but if you buy before you try, there is a chance that you might not like it.

Acoustic is a good blade-the only issue for some is the thin handle-but i resolved that by using Nittaku Grip tape, only added 2 grams to the weight.

Why change? You already have a nice blade, and my understanding is there isn't a whopping difference in speed. I'm sure technique changes would make far more difference to your loop and drive speed at this stage of your game (ie cocking your wrist forward gives you far more power).

I've met a few USTT 1400-1700 forum dudes who don't ever improve because they have to have a very fast kit for their occasional smashes, instead of an OFF- blade they can win rallies with.

It's easy to think you need a fast blade so your smashes don't come back, when you really ought to be building the skills to hit more than 2-3 good loops in a rally.

Again, in this case there apparently isn't a big difference in speed, and maybe a player who's used both will recommend the Acoustic to you. But don't be a sucker for the I-need-a-fast-blade trap (like I was when I started). The idea is to start with an all round blade (and good rubbers) and slowly work up the blade speeds as you master sustained looping rallies with your current speed.

I've used both extensively.
For a looper and hitter, the acoustic is the better choice. Stiffer feel and faster.

If you want to change, go for it. The main difference would be just the larger head of your violincello.

Stick with what you have and prolly switch too a faster fh and harder sponge

But all in all the setup is similar

Wise words, i think i needed them. But i still will try a hard blade (with the OFF- always ready to get my ass tired again LOL).

Is it Acoustic softer or harder than Clipper Wood? Clipper is stiffer , faster than Acoustic?
