Thickness: just a little over 9 I think. Couldn't find my ruler so I measure it with my Swiss-knife's ruler.
Compact head size. Very thick handle. Thickest handle out of all my blades.
Weight: 90.75g

Was this the super expensive one? The grain doesn't look as good as I thought it would. Darker's Speed 90s have better grains than that...

Yes. That's what I got for not buying personally... But, I guess it's nothing to do with buying personally or not... Those buying from iruiru also don't buy personally. I was expecting better from Kokutaku after the so many great reviews and photos...

Also, I kind of not like the compact head size with very thick handle.

I don't know...

I just hope that it plays very well to justify its price...

What is wrong with the grain? The layer thickness of grain looks even throughout. They are also perpendicular to the blade surface, not at an angle.

Grain looks good to me as well. I think people get caught up in the beauty more than the playability. It's quartersawn and centercut.

What else do you need?

Personally, I think the grain is exceptionally good. There is contrast between the growth rings which varies from tree to tree. Rings that close togather is from a slow growing tree. Looks good to me.
The only thing I will say though is, with the grain being perpendicular to the blade surface means it will split "eaiser" than one cut with the grain at an angle to the blade surface.
I have seen two one ply hinoki's split. One from being dropped, one from hitting it with his hand in anger. Either way, I don't think a hinoki will split from normal use.
If you are worried about it splitting, send it to me and I will tell you if it ever does. :D

 How thick IS the handle? I'll check how much my SC is...(that thickness is what I find comfortable, I sand thicker ones down, like the Mazunov)

For the playability, well, I can't help you there. Well, except to second hookshot's suggestion of sending it over to let us try it. xD

I was mostly commenting on the waver in the grain that you can see on the top edge in the second pic and the slight discoloration on one side, which indicates that the tree grew at a slightly different rate/direction in that spot. I wasn't saying that the grain was bad, just that for the 200 USD or whatever rok paid for it, there's higher quality hinoki out there.

Ah, that waver slightly on the left from the center of the second pic, eh?

;) Shopping personally for hinoki, Hobbes?

Is it possible to make a sales exchange to get a better grain?

I totally agree with hookshot observation. I actually thought the grain is beautifully profound. If I really want to be picky, I can only complain that it is not 500 years old...hahahahahahaha Nah! it is a beautiful blade!

Cheers.

Nah, but I've bought a few hinoki blades before and a good number of my clubmates use them, so I have a pretty good base for comparison.

The old head of iruiru supposedly has sold some of the better blades in their stock on request, but I haven't seen it happen elsewhere.

I agree with Hobbes here - not the best grain I've seen.

well these hinoki blades are using aged between 250 years to 1000 years.
I know that the Speed 90 uses hinokis from the 250-350 year range, perhaps you just got a "younger" hinoki....nothing wrong with young blood lol ^_^

Good thing I'm not a mad emotional player, so it should be safe with me... Hehehe...

Looking briefly, the headsize is compact as wavestone and the amadeus/jazz. Haven't actually compared them side by side. The compact headsize coupled with very thick handle makes it look a bit weird. But the balance seems to feel very good nonetheless. Thickness feels thicker than Schlager (I used my friends SC a couple of times).
