I switched to inverted from long pips and I'm having a hard time handling receiving side spin serves. I try to push early and the ball bites into the rubber and shoots off the table on either side. A tip I was given was to wait for the ball to effectively spin out, but this return is weak imo and sometimes I get the same result.

I switched from long pips and my previous serve attack does not translate. Any help would be appreciated.

When he serves, if his bat is going from right to left at serve contact, your return will try to go left. Aim right.

If his bat is going left to right at serve contact, your return will go to the right. Aim left.

This works with top spin serves, bat going up at contact, aim low.

Same with chop serves, bat going down at serve contact, aim high.

What ever the direction of his bat at serve contact, that is the direction your return will try to go. :)

Receive the ball in the direction of spin.

If ball travels towards outside the table it is pendulum serve .. so angle the bat so rubber contacts the inside of ball as it passes by.
FH --->\o
o/ <---- BH

If ball travels towards middle of table it is a typical reverse pendulum serve. Receive by looping to either side of the table or push safely to the centre.

FH o/ or _o_ push or o\ (loop)
BH \o or _o_ push or /o (loop)

Player hand is at the top or bottom depending on technique.
