Had an hour and a half private lesson from a well respected coach here in the area, who does coach defenders (so rare, as is YouTube info for defenders). Among the many many things he told me, he wants me to obviously chop from further back, but also be able to vary and fire a forehand from that distance, and suggested that I may eventually want to get a faster blade to add more firepower from further back ( I play a Donic DEFPLAY senso) .

I like my blade and may eventually take his advice (he said do it down the road) but until then would like suggestions of a faster forehand rubber instead, so a higher power forehand rubber that may work for this. I currently play Xiom Vega Europe and its pretty good. Oh, and less expensive would be nice. I know that Tenergy would probably work.

Thanks!

You can try the Vega Asia for the same topsheet and harder (higher top end speed) sponge. I find the Euro bottom out too easily, limits how hard you can hit from far back.

I find andro rasanter in 2.0 sponge great for mid to long distance.

Thanks for all your help! I suppose there is nothing in a cheaper option? The Vega Asia is an idea and isnt quite as expensive, and Zero Pong said that the only thing they have at the moment for this is the MechTec in 2.1.

You could try the two rubbers that have been suggested recently, namely Reactor Tornado and Three Sword Red Dragon. They don't cost very much and the latter is supposedly "better than Butterf-- Tenerg-". I'm about ready to write a comparison between the two, maybe today or tomorrow.

You can try the other route with Chinese rubbers. Hurricane 3 is the easy choice, Battle 2 has nothing but good reviews (haven't tried this one), and I recently bought a Bloom Power which imo is faster than H3. The problem with these rubberd is that they are linear, direct comparison with Vega Europe is less bouncy thus slower on the low end. But hard sponge means more potential for top end speed, which is what you need from way back.

This is going to be controversial, but if you can generate high racket speed, hard Chinese rubbers are faster than soft tensors

The Chinese rubber (most types) are easily bought on AliExpress. The drawback is the 3 week wait for the stuff to arrive.

My post on Tuttle Octopus, Reactor Tornado and Three Sword Red Dragon:

Mech tek is a very good rubber. My first suggestion was rasanter R47. The main difference is that rasanter has more catapult effect, but they play pretty similarly. I think I block better w mech tek and can chop with it, but R47 loops are more powerful.

Thank you very much! How does the MechTec compare to Focus 3 Snipe?

They are similar in that both are essentially non-tacky mechanical spin, but MeckTek is firmer and has more power. I think it would be fair to say MechTek is more powerful (thought not in the rasanter level of power), or that focus 3 is more control. But a lot of similarities.

Incidentally, Gambler is coming out with a new rubber called "Volt-M" - at least, it's on their International web page, which isn't actually shipping anything yet. I'd be surprised if it doesn't show up on the US web site once it's ready. There's also a Volt-T which is tacky.
