...the Japanese media has also revealed that an ITTF official has said that the International Olympic Committee is already concerned for the Chinese domination over table tennis. "It is not just the Olympic Games, even in world championships, table tennis has become a game of the Chinese people themselves. This has aroused the concern of the International Olympic Committee. They may discuss the cancellation of table tennis for the 2020 Olympics."

One report says table tennis is fading in China, this one says it has become the game of the people of China. :^)

Considering they barely give it any coverage...not sure it will make a difference to what we see of it anyway |(

What a load. No new information; no actual IOC source(s) cited; only cheap fear-mongering to garner readership.

The IOC "may discuss" the topic? That could apply to just about anything.

table tennis is dominated by the chinese and they want to cancel it? ok, why don't they cancel basketball, since it's dominated by the usa? or long-distance running events, since they are dominated by african countries? or 100m, 200m etc, since it's dominated by jamaica? it's just nonsense

I'm pleased we all agree on the feebleness of this article. Mind you, if it was written "just to attract attention", why are we bothering to give it airplay here?

If you're questioning why I posted it, it's because I think OOAK members have an interest in what is being said in the media about our sport, whether it's good, bad, right or wrong. Anyone who wants me to stop posting articles please let me know. I won't waste my time if people don't appreciate it.

Hey, it's your blog - you can post whatever you like. :)

I guess I do wonder why so many of the posts on the forum are focussed upon the "death" of our sport. When there is so much good stuff to consider, it seems a little macabre that we spend so much time contemplating our own demise.

I rather like the quote from Mark Twain: Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
Khalil Gibran

Life and death are important. Don't suffer them in vain.
Bodhidharma

Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides.
Lao Tzu

The very essence of literature is the war between emotion and intellect, between life and death. When literature becomes too intellectual - when it begins to ignore the passions, the emotions - it becomes sterile, silly, and actually without substance.
Isaac Bashevis Singer

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
Mark Twain

Gaily I lived as ease and nature taught,
And spent my little life without a thought,
And am amazed that Death, that tyrant grim,
Should think of me, who never thought of him.
René Francois Regnier

The death of someone we know always reminds us that we are still alive - perhaps for some purpose which we ought to re-examine.
Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

The entire OOAK forum is now one man's blog?

Some people like to post this negative and alarmist stuff because it "proves" how much ITTF has ruined our sport. After all, the entire table tennis event at the Olympics was a dismal failure except for Amelie Solja's match.

But even then one can do better than take something from tabletennista.com which is a sloppy translation of a Chinese article purporting to summarize articles in unnamed Japanese papers quoting an unnamed IOC official. There's no "revelation" in there, and the whole thing doesn't even make much sense.

If Ian Marshall's coverage isn't true journalism, then this one sure isn't either.

And yet, elsewhere we have this memorable line:

Get real. This "negative and alarmist stuff" is the media's perception of our sport. I didn't write it. If there were any articles talking about how wonderful Chinese domination is I would post it.

What's wrong with complimenting Sharara on doing a good job on organizing the Olympics? The guy is ruining the sport with his rule changes and bad leadership, but that doesn't mean he's a bad organizer.
