Quote:
Chen Meng, the player had won the Women’s Singles titles on the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour in both Doha and Suzhou, finishing at the top of the Women’s Singles Standings, recovered from a three games to nil deficit and saved a total of some nine match points before eventually overcoming the host nation’s Amelie Solja.

The no.5 seed in Austria, Chen Meng won in seven games (8-11, 5-11, 11-13, 11-3, 13-11, 11-5, 17-15).

Style Caused Problems
Staying close to the table, employing her blocking style of play to good effect, the 22 year old came within a hair’s breadth of causing a massive upset.

The variation in spin caused with long pimpled rubber on one side of the racket and reversed rubber on the other, prevented Chen Meng establishing a rhythm.

Notice they mention long pimples... I thought she was using anti?

True, must be a mistake in the news. No way she switched back to LP again...

Too bad she couldn't bring home a 3:0 lead.

According to this article Solja was up 3-0 and was ahead 10-7 in the fourth set and then had six match points in the final game.

Amy: "I simply gave away too many chances, but I need take the positives, namely that I can keep up against such strong players."

I found out about the result on ITTF site. But too bad there isn't any video of that match. ;(

Amy is the best! She's playing in the ITTF tournament this weekend, too. I hope some her matches get streamed.

She's my new favourite player. I don't know of any male or female pro that plays so similar to club level at the table blockers. Now I know what all the hype is about. And she wears glasses too! Superb.

If the ittf( :@ ) ever bans oxlp, I'll just use a SLICK anti with THICK dampening sponge. Hey, that makes a great user name should I ever forget my old one -> SLICKnTHICK.
