I haven’t use cutter nor scalpel for years now, favoring the scissors for convenience. I did buy a new cutter this morning in anticipation for the next new rubber I’m putting on this blade.

What are the "good" scalpels? I use a Swann-Morton Retractable. Cost about £7 on Amazon. Could be better (actually non-retractable versions might be easier to use) but i am used to it, and have a box of replaceable blades which will probably never run out. I never could manage a good cut with a box-cutter/Stanley knife. Kudos to Rokphish for the job using scissors on the Cybershape.

I think the key is that you need to replace them often, as they go 'blunt' after a few cuts. They're not really blunt for other purposes, but too blunt for cutting rubber. For the box-cutter knife I use, I use the wide one (12mm I think), because the narrow ones are too flimsy. I only get 1 or two cuts out of it, before I need to snap off another bit. I also got into the habit of wiping a bit of oils on them, which helps slide it through.
I did use scalpels in the past, but found that I had to change them very regularly too, so they were not a lot better than the box-cutter knife, and a lot more expensive.

Interesting. I could never use the snap-off blades, just too clumsy (me that is. not necessarily the blade). The scalpel blades last me about four rubbers, and the pack of 100 puts the cost per blade at about 2p. The tricky part is not cutting bits of wood off with the rubber. Anyway, I didn't wish to go off-topic.

Feel free to converse whichever way. Just rambling here no fixed topic. By the way, I know Tino, he told me you played together at times.

How much difference is it chopping with very fast and bouncy blade? Like Primorac Carbon and/or faster blade? Me: after some adjustments, not so much of a difference (for me). Less tiring for sure.

I now a few players that like fast blades for chopping. It certainly takes less effort away from the table, and the fast rebound probably makes it less sensitive to spin as well.

I never thought about it that way. I should pay more attention to it now.
