1. Women's Fashion Contest - Steve Dainton & Etsuko Enami gave a brief talk with slides & invited the members of FIT to participate in the fashion contest to be held at the 2007 Volkswagen Women's World Cup. This will take place in Chengdu, China between 28 - 30 September 2007.
2. Incident in Zagreb - Odd Gustavsen (ITTF Equipment Committeee Chairman) advised of his total dissatisfaction, which resulted in a Croatian player forfeiting a match because of non-aired rubber. He was very unhappy that like last year in Bremen, a player received a rubber from a company that contained volatile compounds. He stated that in future
he would like to go back to find the actual manufacturer.
3. Micro Friction - Joachim Kuhn (ITTF Equipment Cmte. member in charge of ball testing and approval) displayed a graph on the pimpled rubbers showing the obvious differences in friction between treated & non-treated pimples-out rubbers. He felt that the treated pimples-out rubbers did not comply with ITTF rule 2.4 in that the layer was "not continuous". A decision was reached that all pimples-out rubbers with too low friction would be deleted from the ITTF Authorized Racket Covering List, effective from 1st July 2008. Joachim explained that he is trying to create a test for referees and umpires that easily will detect treated pimpled rubbers, and showed a prototype to those present.
4. Glue Working Committee (GWG) - Report to the BoD by George Segun (ITTF Deputy President) . "Based on the experiences of the JTTA on the use of (the Wassing) "Enez" equipment and the report of the EVP, GWG would make the following proposals:
A. The Enez equipment be adopted for use as a control device on the ban date or any other date BoD would wish to adopt.
B. The RAE equipment, which has been approved worldwide for detecting VoCs and other elements, be used as a back up in the event of a dispute during our major events.
C. The Equipment Committee should embark immediately on the training of personnel for the use of both the Enez and RAE equipment.
D. All the National Associations should be encouraged to purchase Enez equipment for their own use, as soon as possible."
5. Michael (Bachtler - President of Joola) queried the life of Enez before calibration was required. It is unknown. Suggestions included comparing one machine to another, or comparing results of two rackets in each Enez.
6. Joachim Kuhn advised the results of a recent meeting with the Manufacturers regarding the hardness of balls. He had agreed to their request to increase the hardness range & had shifted it upward by 0.03mm. The tolerance gap would remain the same. The Manufacturers had indicated that in achieving higher hardness, they had increased the quality of the ball and reduced wastage.
