hey guys,

just an update ;) im off to the doctor tomorrow/tuesday to get a referral to a specialist, my back has actually been getting WORSE these last 2 weeks.

i can't play table tennis for more than 10 minutes without my back causing me serious issues, and after doing so i regret it, so i havn't picked a bat up in 5 days...still having problems.

It definately doesnt sound like a herniated disc on my part - it essentially comes down to "bending". whenever i bend in any way whatsoever, it's horribly painful. and i physically cannot bend past a certain point at all. i'm being harrassed by my friends and family. one of my friends seems to think it's related to my cold, which means it could be pneumonia (eep) and my mother seems to think i've pinched a nerve.

will let you guys know :-)

I have something with might be plantar faciitis (or progressing to) now.

This particular issue I have cropped up when I started using a thinly-soled TT shoe because it was really cheap and very grippy.

I think I may have to go back to the Mizunos (not very grippy, sadly) just for the insoles. It hard to tiptoe right now.

Slider, OUCH! Raw deal. Hope you heal up soon enough.

Yuzuki, if you treat your feet now, you can manage and control it well enough. I have had that condition for the last 5 years. A custom formed plastic one is easily made by a specialist in minutes, They simply apply lotion to the feet, slap on some warm plastic, mold, let cool, and trim - done in 10 minutes. You can also experiment with shoe inserts. There are some made from corn husk fibers that you bake for a bit, put in your shoes, then put on your shoes. Other inserts you can buy have a detachable velcro piece for you to move to the bottom of your insert where you need the arch support. Some other doctors have you moisten the bottom of your feet and step onto a dry measuring paper, then make your orthodics from those. I trust the custom plastic ones best. I also use some pre-formed orthodic insets with my boots.

Bottom line: you get your feet alignment corrected with an insert and your pain is greatly reduced after a few days and you barely notice it in a week or two. Once you use wrong footgear again without the right support, it will come back to haunt you. Stay with decent inserts that fit correctly and you will have very little problems with your pain.

was a stress fracture :( which means i'm out for a little longer. you're supposed to stay out for a month at least. it's starting to heal now - causing me less problems moving around and bending and everything which is great - i'm putting on weight because i can't exercise :( so i'm easing back into exercise as of this week.

Good, hopefully you'll be right soon enough and no long lasting problems!

Try the swimming pool for weightless bearing exercise!

Try not eating so much food for putting on weight!

(Sorry, i could'nt help the last remark!) :D

hahaha eating less food is a virtual impossibility ;) i need to find a heated pool - its the middle of winter here and a bit cold :P

but i'm ever so slowly working back into it. it's actually upsetting because i was working really hard on developing a double-inverted attack and getting somewhere too :(

back to basics ;)

Don't worry you'll get back to it soon enough!

Time is on your side!

What you don't want are permanent injuries!

I bought myself a couple of knee straps (a pair of Cho-pats and a Mueller), so I'm wondering how snug/tight should they be worn? I have no clue, and there isn't much information on the Internet.

I intend to wear them during play time. If everything goes well, they will be good to my knees, much the ankle supports I once bought for badminton.

---

edit: Figured out how tight is tight. Skin hurts when it's too tight.

But they seem to work well! Played how many hours today...no pain.

Now I need to figure something out, something similar for heels of my feet!

Just a different kind of injury cropping up because of the Photino:

Image

That's my playing hand wrist, because of the FL handle. Now, I'm thinking of what to do. I'm not sure if merely taping the butt of the handle would prevent this chafing problem. :? It's the two marks of the middle-left hand side of the photo.

Wouldn't want to modify the Photino just for this. Haven't found anyone with an ST handle as well.
