Hi All

I wonder whether the sealant needs to be applied to the blade every time the rubber is changed.
Thanks!

No. You apply it once before you put the rubber on, and then you shouldn't need to do it again. Lots of threads on the forum about how it's done and what to use, I use oil-based polyurethane varnish applied with a paper towel (what some people call a "kitchen roll"), as per Kee's method. Just one thin layer, all over the bat, including the edge and the handle. Wipe off as much as you can with the same towel.

I would pick this one from the store you mentioned:

FLOOR VARNISH WATER BASED
Water-based Floor Varnish Water based one-component polyurethane varnish for interior parquet, floors and staircases. It has excellent working properties without yellowing, high hardness, resistance to abrasion, engraving, water and cleaning liquids.

Go for the smallest bottle, and only use a thin layer.

The Shildkrot 900 never needed any varnishing, but needed a LOT of PPE. :D

The Xiom one is fine, and is much easier to use of course. However Polyurethane ones are actually water proof and provides more durable protection.

I'd actually use an oil-based polyurethane instead.

Based on this:

https://www.vitex.gr/Files/Products/DIA ... 153446.pdf

it might work. At first I thought it was just a stain (which wouldn't work - most stains just soak into the wood and change its color and don't leave a protective layer on the surface). What I would do is try it on some wood first, see if it forms a protective layer. Maybe glue some scrap rubber to it. Note that it recommends using some other products as a final coat, though. Heck, buy a cheap blade and use it on that first. If you use it, though, your blade will never look the same again...

Now, regarding your example, as you know "Additives" of any kind, even if very healthy (Orange Juice or Milk) are not allowed by the ITTF rules. The composition of a racket is very clearly defined in rule 2.4. Nothing else can be added. This is clear. So peanut butter would not be allowed. The only items allowed in a racket as per 2.4 are: the blade, the sponge, the rubber and the glue. That's it. Nothing else is allowed.

Detection: Now this is another matter. If someone puts peanut butter in his/her racket, we would probably not be able to detect it and the player will get away with it. Even though it is illegal. This is another matter. It is impossible to detect everything. But if we find out one day that this is a common practice, then of course we will improve our detection instruments to look for such substances, as we are doing now with the known boosters, tuners and oils
