Hello all respected members,
what does it mean when someone says that you have to "activate the spin" from the rubber [has come across this term in multiple forums online for various rubbers e.g. mx-s reviews]?

Thanks in advance!

You sure it's not "activate the sponge"? Please provide the URL of an example.

That means hitting the ball harder with the bat in a more perpendicular direction instead of brushing the ball with the face of the rubber. This way, the ball sinks deeper into the rubber and causes more deformation of the sponge. Both strokes (we're talking fast loop drives here) involve upward movement of the bat with regard to the ball's intended path, but when you brush the ball the bat is more closed and the ball doesn't sink as much into the rubber if at all.

FF to 3:01 - the more the ball sinks into the rubber the more "activated" the sponge becomes. If you brush the ball, the ball doesn't sink into the rubber as much.
