Hey guys,

I am an intermediate player and recently started playing TT more regularly now. I try for an hour a day at least.

The issue is that my knees are not in a good shape because of years of playing basketball on a concrete court. And now I have got a TT installed nearby but that the floor is a marble floor, which is obviously much harder than a gerfloor.

So my question - should I play with well cushioned running shoes to save my knees on the marble floor? Or should I get proper TT shoes with the nice grip.

Pros and Cons or running shoes -
The cushioning in the running shoes helps the knees but the running shoes are bad on the ankle as they are not made for side to side movements and also they have no grip on the marble floor. In fact a well back only I got an ankle injury because I slipped since the running shoes gave no grip for a quick movement I had to make.

Pros and Contracts of TT shoes
- The only problem though with the TT shoes is that the cushioning is not very great and that may affect my knees since I play on a marble floor. But one guy advised me to stick to proper TT shoes because since no grip in the running shoes so a lot of pressure will be put on the knees.

What do you guys suggest I do? - play with running shoes or proper grippy TT shoes?

Many Thanks
Sid

I use volleyball shoes instead (various Asics Gel Rockets). Better cushioning than TT shoes, improved support and grip compared to running stuff.

Works pretty well.

I use cross training shoes or basketball shoes. Both types are made to be light and are made to handle quick movements while providing a lot of cushion and grip.

Running Shoes are Tilted FORWARD to help you move forward !!!

There is NO Ankle roll-over supports !!!

Running shoes don't really provide diagonal / lateral support.

I would say Badminton shoes and Volleyball shoes or if you can get it Hand-ball shoes will be the best cushion and foot support needed closest to what Table-tennis needs.

Also if you get Dr. Scholl gel Sole inserts it might increase the cushioning ... some people don't like the mushiness of gel soles, YMMV.

If they're tilted forward, they're kinda like mini-heels?
