the vote was held! :n: it took the ittf a day to publish the results from wednesday, so we will probably have to wait till tomorrow to see todays results. anyone got contacts to get infos sooner? 8) dont think it will pass, just interesting to see how close the result is, when the rule was implemented it was a unanimous vote back then! :o

the chinese wanted to pass a rule that stated that regulations concerning the equipment can only be changed every 4 years (with the exception of unforseen situations) - luckily they withdrew their own proposal.

What is the point of withdrawing a proposal? Why not just run a vote?

maybe they reached the conclusion that it was a poor idea after all! lets be happy, this way another motion to get rid of the ban could be reintroduced in 2011.. had the chinese proposal passed next chance would have been years after..

Well, I guess that's it then, I can't see the topic being brought up again unless a new argument can be found.

I'm sort of relieved, actually; I've gotten used to playing with grippy LPs and totally changed my playing style for that reason, and I wouldn't've enjoyed knowing that frictionless LPs are once again legal to use, which would've forced me to resist the temptation to switch back.

Here is a PM from Adham:

Unfortunately it was defeated although the Swedish representative gave a very good explanation and also indicated that this was the wish of the players in Sweden and that it was voted in Sweden first and then brought up to the ITTF. The comments of the Board member from Sweden convinced me. But most of the arguments against were stating that it is not necessary to change the current rule because national association do not need to follow it. This was actually the argument of several board members and it seemed to prevail. The vote was overwhelmingly against. I believe only 4 or 5 voted in favour (there were 43 members present (4 members absent).

I still think that's a ridiculous argument, about how the individual associations don't have to follow it. Almost all will automatically follow the rule, and most of those members have to know that. To say otherwise just isn't being honest, in my opinion. I guess then that if people want it rescinded that they should work through their individual associations, and if enough associations overturn it on a national level, then maybe it would be reconsidered at the ITTF level.

As I understand it, this whole thing is about Eberhard Schöler losing to frictionless players. As a former world class chopper, he can't accept the humiliation of being defeated by what he considers inferior players. To save face he blames it on frictionless rubbers and has been hellbent on eradicating that style of play ever since. Sadly, it seems Schöler has played the ITTF to satisfy a personal vendetta.

I'm particularly disappointed at the lack of response of the BoD members... I did not get any replies from the Emails I sent, and I think very few other people did either....

In all fairness they probably don't have any obligation to answer Emails from members, but I feel it's common courtesy to at least offer a quicky reply to a fellow TT player...

I suppose it's possible they Email address have expired or are no longer used.... I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm pretty disappointed....

I sent 274 Emails to all the Email addresses of NAs and the BoD members I could find with a few exceptions and received 30 messages about not being able to be delivered.

The others were obviously delivered, however I received no response from anybody.
