Looks like zeropong have finally released their new version of outlaw:
http://zeropong.com/product.php?product ... 251&page=1

Packaging is the same, which is going to create some confusion. What was the other recent rubber with a "Gold Cake" sponge? I wonder if it's the same sponge...

Funny they call the new sponge "Lavender". That is kind of a blue or purple color. So is the sponge gold or lavender? If it is lavender, I would not think it would work on Red Diamond unless the top sheet is opague.

Opps, maybe it was Black Diamond they were going to use a new sponge with.

I think it is LKT Black Power, there are 2 versions at TTnPP one of which is the "golden cake" sponge

I hope that it's not the same sponge as LKT Black Power Golden Cake sponge, I bought that rubber a few months ago and it's one of the crappiest rubbers around. The sponge crumbles like the sponge of a $5 729 super fx.

Yes that must have been the one I was thinking off.

I suspect there's a good chance that the sponge IS at least similar, as 729, LKT and Gambler are all very closely related. Let's hope this one is a winner though, and fixed the reliability problem with some of the Outlaws...

Just ordered the new version of red outlaw 2.15 gold cake. Will be placing it on my trusted ayous hinoki this weekend and will give a review of it vs the 'old outlaw'.

Red 2.15 cold cake. Slight dome when released from packaging material, slightly tacky. Rubber felt sort of floppy compared to the outlaw in max that I have been using. Regular outlaw would not bend or flop over when held out but the new one felt sort of softish and would easily bend. Sponge and topsheet felt soft to the touch, it did not seem like the topsheet was the same as the original. Played with it for only 2.5 hours today so I can't really give it a good review. Stuck it on my lkt ayous hinoki with rubber cement. At first I did not like the way I played with it. The more I hit with it the more it grew on me. On certain loops it looked like something sucked the ball to the floor after hitting the table. My hitting partner completly missed on these really nasty loops, other times it looked like a regular run of the mill easy loop. The tack on the rubber seemed to wear of after time so I will be able to have a better take on it after my singles matches monday night. Pushes are real nice (due to the tack) has a much better short game, mid distance looping was good. Did not get to back up and power loop because of room constaints. Chops real nice stays low doesn't look like it will hit then at last moment drops in. Caught my hitting partner by surprise many times. So far undecided about it but I will not have a choice since zeropong did away with the original. Will post with more detail later.

Thanks a lot ebark63! That sounds quite promising. Sounds like the sponge is perhaps a little softer too.

Sponge is ALOT softer, almost reminded me of juic elite ultima sv. Has alot more power but can hit those light shots really well. Was able to place ball better and had better control than regular outlaw, seemed a bit slower but when I dug into sponge it was almost on par with the speed of the original. I think that once the tack wears off the speed might be the same....I hope so. Opening loops were not as good, felt I could not make the same loop as regular. Once into rally though it really shined. Noticed that I could not be passive with any strokes or I would either dump into net or set up easy kill for opponent (too high with no spin). Another observation was how I could kill spin and send a dead ball back, came in handy at times to throw my partner off. Had to have active strokes to keep spin on ball, could not get lazy and just hit it back. Really annoying sometimes, regular outlaw goes across with spin this one dies and screams to opponent KILL me. Mixed feelings on this rubber, will have to play with it awhile. I know that I don't post alot but I will keep you all informed of my progress and how this rubber grows on me.

I have switched back to Outlaw as humidity has gone away. This might be interesting. The thing I liked about Tenergy was its nice ability to control slow shots with spin.

Looks like I will be looking for an outlaw alternative. Close to table it plays similar to the original. Once you back away from table it falls apart. All loops land but everything gets returned. I started to twiddle mid point and everytime I hit a power loop with the original it was a point for me. If you like to loop to loop rally this new one is not for you. Such a shame, really liked the quality of outlaw and since I was playing with it for a long time I new what it was capable of in different situations. Now I will have to search for a replacement. Still have 4 sheets left so I will be searching in a couple months. Will keep playing with the golden cake on my spare blade but I don't have much hope for it, maybe it will grow on me. When I put lots of power into the ball it gives out a nice crack and I am thinking...wow but then the shot comes back at me. Would probably make a decent backhand rubber for serving and receiving for me but I am used to the regular being there. Will hit with it after Christmas and post a better review but right now I am disapointed.

Perhaps it might still be a decent rubber for players that play mainly close to the table?

I'm with ebark on the power shots with original Outlaw. I hit a power shot and the point is over - period, unless I hit it right at the dude, even then retuirn percentage is LOW. The same shot with Tenergy does not move out nearly as fsat it seems, but the kick, especially off the Lissom or TBS is too much to cope with most times ad I get the point pretty much the same percentage. I would have to have a hit for a spell to know. maybe I can get Tenergy like spin, maybe it will fail. I won't know until I hit with it.
