Ma Te fought hard, but it seems unlikely that any defender could hold against Minseoks resentless attack.

Worst possible opponent in the round, indeed...
But i think the match was less one sided than it seems from the 4-0 result. He lost every set not by a big margin, and made almost every point by defending really well... so with a couple of tricks and attacks he could have turned the match in his favour IMHO

Kim Minseok was basically a chopper killer throughout his career. His issues were that he was too slow against aggressive topspin players.

That explains it. I watched Minseoks next game and he had no chance against top spin player - it seemed he is too slow.

Jorgic won Ma Te with basic loop-push tactic. Ma Te don't seem to have any kind FH attack. :?:

Very odd that Ma Te plays so bad in international competitions but can play so good in Chinese Superleague. He usually have a rather good FH attack for a chopper, and a good BH attack too.

Maybe he is bothered by conditions around him, like the balls, the table, the venue etc?

Against Jorgic, he was less aggressive with the pips close to the table than he usually is as well.

Nb. he won his other preliminary against Yeh Chih-Weh 4-0, but I can't find video of it.

Strange match... it seemed like if Ma lacked "fighting spirit". He was very passive during all the match, Jorgic basically won through consistency. It was like if Ma expected to win just by being more consistent than the opponent, and until the end he didn't even try to change game plan.
That said, even if it's hard to tell if Ma's balls had less quality and variation than usual, we have to praise Jorgic for how he handled the match, not many can play that way.

Looks like he won all his prelims and he's playing Quadri Aruna tomorrow. If he wins that match, looks like Mizutani is his most likely opponent in the R16.
