Wow. This really is a classic. Remember my dad playing with barna. in those days his rubbers were brown in colour both sides before the red/black combo of today. He was a hard hat player, never using sponge. However he constantly took the scalps of normal bat players with his unorthodox chop and flick style. The original rubbers were ox but with a canvas backing I believe.

What stores are currently selling the Barna rubbers? I couldn't find any here in the US.

In the geblock TT video surprised at how many mistakes the guy in red was making against the Barna SP. So although they do not claim any disruptive effect there is clearly some even with thick sponge. Will be interesting to see how the half long version performs.
