I am experiencing problems returning short no spin and under spin serves to my backhand wing. Poor technique contributes but can anyone suggest the best long pimple for flick returning such balls? Would a faster blade help?
I am currently using DTecS ox on a Defplay V3 Senso blade. Averaging nearly 70% win rate this season but losing to players serving short in this way and those using little or no spin generally.

Just curious, is side swiping not working for you?

Back spin serves should be attacked. This is what D.TecS shines at.

No spin serves are problematic. Try to push it towards the pocket of the opponent.

I played today with Defplay + Troublemaker ox and it's really good fit. Reseiving short serves should be one of the strong points of ox play - one standard return is sideswipe aiming for short return. Flick is riskier move, except against underspin. Faster blade won't help, it just leads to more passive play - Defplay excells in active returns, but for me Defplay with Dtecs is on the (too) fast side, as Defplay is not that slow with ox pips.

Thank you for your help guys. I will endeavour to master the sideswipe. I struggle to flick with DTecS and some of my pushes with pips pop up. I will endeavour to push long to the pocket of the server.
Thinking of investing in Allround Premium 2 and a Neubauer blade to play against some opponents.

A few thoughts:

- Dtecs is pretty fast, and not very grippy, so control against short float is an Achilles heel
- If you are going to go after the short no spin balls, sideswipe is probably the best approach
- An alternative is to use a grippier pip - I played for a month or so with P4, which was really super in this sort of case
- I'm currently working on twiddling and flicking short float serves to my BH - but it requires accurate reading of the serve and a quick reaction - not brave enough to try this in a match yet, but I think it's definitely worth having in one's arsenal

Hope some of that helps.

Thanks. It does help. I end up pushing short floats back with my inverted and can get out of position.
I might have a fling with CurlP4.

I can see how the p4 could help for this situation, I just hope you won't miss all the good things about the D'tecs that allow you to win that 70% you mentioned. But if your stuck, you got to try something.

Personally I had in the other way around. Playing with Feint 2, easily returning those short serves with pressure. But overall the D'tecs matched the rest of my style way better and creating dangerous balls came so much easier. Nowadays I just sideswipe the short serves on default and only occassionally attack an obvious underspin-serve when I feel the conditions are right. It got my game further, perhaps it's the otherway around for you. :)

I will take an eternity for me to decide. I have had shoulder and elbow injuries which probably doesn’t help.
