Has anyone used Tibhar Top Cleaner? I recently bought some and used it last night... but didnt really notice much of a diff between using it and just puratap water... But im fairly new to all this so im not sure what to expect?

Also, just because i get a bit paranoid due to things like the way speed glue has been banned due to it getting too toxic and potentially dangerous to your health... is it the same with these cleaners... mine says it is VOC free... do you need to be careful about your contact with it? if your using it during a comp and then rub your eye??? or is this stuff just like water-based detergent? they dont list the ingredients on the bottle and it is mostly in german...

Well, my take on this is that, if you don't have time to wash hands before rubbing your eyes, it might safer to use just water.

Even the VOC thing was blown way out of proportion... many household items are more dangerous...

The cleaner should be fine, it's probably just a mild detergent, which si pretty harmless but will probably sting your eyes

yeah i ended up drenching the rubbers in this stuff... because the directions werent very clear... and then since last night my right eye has felt strained... but i think is more related to my paranoia that i MAY have got some in my eye somehow...

anyway regarding the other part of my question, how effective are these cleaners compared to just using puratap water?

During my game, I simply breathe on my Globe 999 rubber and wipe off any dust with my palm, and it seems to stay as tacky as ever. I've read that using rubber cleaner will eventually soften your rubber, but I'm not sure if that's true, or if it's more a case of general rubber wear & tear.

I never rub my eyes during a game, so I don't know what harm rubber cleaners will do, but any chemical will at the very least sting your eyes. Even shampoo...

Every now and then, I use a TT rubber cleaner. During a match, I do it the same way as guitar plug or use my shirt. Works fine.

When i really want to rejuvinate, I use Lemon Juice and a little olive oil, then clean with water.

Haggisv, can you bring back your rubber cleaning experiment?

Thanks CSTT. For future reference I'm putting it at the bottom of the equipment index as its a handy thread.

Olive oil really does work wonders on a rubber thats looking a little dull. Of course its technically illegal as its an additive to the topsheet which loves it and drinks it up.

GP, didn't realise you were now using the Globe 999. How are you finding it?

Olive oil? Really? Hmmm... must try it one day... Does the rubber soak it up, or does it just remain as a film that you have to wipe off?

Regarding the Globe 999, I guess I like it. It feels a touch heavy but really spinny and fast. I think I like blocking with the Omega II better, but otherwise, the Globe does the job fine and is so much cheaper! :D

Rubber will soak olive oil right in. Don't use much as it will make your bat heavier.
