I measured the Nanocannon sponge (38) to be a little softer than the Couga (40), but significantly firmer than the Elite nano (35). I think it's always harder to change back from a softer sponge to a harder one, as the soft ones are usually easier to generate more spin with, and you feel the ball more... I have not tried the Nanocannon myself, but it's suppsoed to be a little spinnier than the Couga...
